Baby Rowan’s Path to Healing Pediatric Cancer
I first attended Tong Ren at the suggestion of the director of Lucy’s Love Bus — an organization that provides funding for complementary therapies for pediatric cancer patients. My daughter, Rowan, was diagnosed with intermediate risk neuroblastoma in July of 2018 and while she had a partial response to chemotherapy treatment and had had surgery to remove as much of the tumor as possible, there were still portions of the tumor left behind on her major blood vessels and in her spine. The plan was just to observe her and make sure those pieces didn’t grow, which is not something that is easy to sit with as his parent. Beecher, the director of LLB, had heard some amazing stories about Tong Ren energy healing and also knew about Rowan’s love of drumming, and thought she might enjoy the percussive aspect of Tong Ren tapping.
The first time we went to a Tong Ren class, I’ll admit, I was both highly skeptical and a tad uncomfortable. I knew nothing about the theory behind what they were doing. But oddly enough, Rowan sat completely still and silent, taking it all in, clearly enjoying it, and every time they would stop tapping, she would clap as though it were a concert. She enjoyed it so much that I figured, what’s the harm in going again? So we did. She seemed to like it even more the second time. Someone even gifted her a doll, which she would happily “tap tap tap” at home and during classes. The third time we went, I started feeling some… changes. My face and hands would get warm, I’d feel very relaxed (I’m prone to anxiety and obviously had had my fair share of it since Rowan’s diagnosis), and my chronic back and hip pain would subside after class. When we started using the laser on both of us, I would get some of the same glorious feelings as I did during class.
Once I started feeling changes, it gave me hope for what kinds of improvements Rowan might be having internally, too. When she had his first full post-surgery scan and it was CLEAN, which was somewhat unexpected given that the tumor was still active according to pathology, I started to think maybe Tong Ren really was healing her! That’s when we started going multiple days per week. Sometimes we would join online classes as well, causing Rowan to yell “TAP TAP TAP” at my laptop several times a day. Within a few months, the blockages one of the Tong Ren practitioners had pointed out to me on Rowan’s spine, which I had been regularly massaging as well, started to loosen up and disappear. At the same time, my uterine prolapse that I’d had since my oldest daughter was born 6 years prior suddenly cleared up. My back and hip pain continued to improve and I started being able to digest grains and foods that I normally tried to avoid due to an overactive inflammatory response. My 5 year old came to a couple classes with us and stopped getting frequent colds and her bronchial cough went away.
I cannot prove that all these changes were caused by Tong Ren, but it does seem unbelievable that they all happened so close together and so soon after we started going. We hear amazing healing stories from other patients every time we go, too. I can say that I feel so much better on Tong Ren class days and Rowan comes home full of energy, running around the house, and sleeps better at night. There is something going on for sure and it is very exciting for us! I have never looked forward to a scan with positive anticipation in the way that I am this week for his next scan. I’m cramming in as many Tong Ren classes as possible these past couple weeks in preparation!
