Tom Tam in Italy 2017. New Frontiers For Tong Ren Healing System
Tom Tam’s October 2017 trip to Italy marked a historic turning point on the road to bringing Tong Ren to the world. We discovered that Tong Ren Italy is gaining in reputation and practice among doctors and patients. A Tong Ren seminar conducted by Tom Tam at the Collegio Italiano Osteopatica, Parma, and seminars in Milan and Florence have opened new doors to Tong Ren. This trip introduced Tong Ren to the osteopathic community, among others, expanding capacity for Tong Ren in helping heal the world.
Collegio Italiano Osteopatica (CIO)
Tom Tam and the Tong Ren community forged a new relationship with Dr. Mauro Fornari, founder and Director of the Collegio Italiano Osteopatica (CIO) in Parma, the premier institute for training in osteopathy, with its sister school in Bologna, Italy. Dr. Mauro Fornari is Professor of the Central Nervous System, a respected scientist with research and publications in the field of osteopathy and the nervous system. Dr. Fornari has committed to conduct a study of the Tong Ren system on his patients and to publish the results. This commitment breaks new ground for Tong Ren. It is the first time a medical institution has committed to the systematic study of Tong Ren and the publication of findings in medical journals.
This new relationship with the CIO is significant for advancing the training and practice of Tong Ren as well. Tom’s seminar created a bridge of understanding with the osteopathic community, who gained appreciation of Tong Ren’s theory of blockages, and could envision Tui Na and other tong ren modalities enhancing osteopathic practice. CIO/Parma is arranging for internships with Dr. Giovanni Cellerini in the Florence clinic: Centro Tong Ren. CIO/Parma has also made arrangements for forthcoming Tui Na seminars in Parma and Florence. The Parma seminar will focus on working on children.
Tong Ren Centro, Dr. Cellerini’s Clinic, Florence
Dr. Giovanni Cellerini, a renowned physician who specialized in sports medicine and surgery for the Italian Olympic Soccer team and others, has studied with Tom Tam for seven years. He formally retired from medicine and transformed his clinic to practice only Tong Ren. The Florence clinic, Tong Ren Centro, has gained a reputation of healing difficult cases that have stymied other doctors.
Doctors have referred many difficult cases to Dr. Cellerini, including: 4th stage pancreatic cancer, a 25 year old woman given no hope by western medicine, an MS patient, a 35 year old man who had been confined to a wheelchair for three years prior to being treated with Tong Ren, a five year old autistic boy who spoke his first words after being treated with Tong Ren, and a stroke patient with extreme pain in lower back and legs.
Dr. Cellerini and his son Lorenzo treat 180 patients per week, between 45-47 patients each day. Tom Tam treated more than 200 patients at the clinic during this trip.
Doctors Report Success
Doctors trained in the Tong Ren report many successes, and include doctors from the fields of cardiology, neurology, family practice, pain medicine and sports medicine. These doctors, many of whom met with Tom Tam at the Italian Medical Professional Association in 2016, report cases of successful healing of osteoporosis, lung cancer with metastases to breast and lymph, cancer of the pituitary gland, and nerve damage that compromised the diaphragm following heart surgery, strokes, broken bones, auto-immune disorders, arthritis and many types of cancers. Through the professional networks of doctors, and grassroots networks of patients, Tong Ren is gaining in popularity and legitimacy.

Tong Ren Italy – Significance
Tom Tam commented on the significance of Tong Ren in Italy, “Florence is the radiating center for Tong Ren across Italy and western Europe. We see the sunrise in Florence, people who believe the earth is round and circles the sun. Galileo’s country”. Tam’s comment recalls support of the Copernican theory by Galileo, ultimately leading to Galileo’s imprisonment in 17th century Tuscany. Florence, and the Tuscany region is once again home to a profound challenge to the dominant scientific paradigm.
